Children & Family Minister

Mark Muckler

I come to you as a husband, and father of three children, and a rising third year MDiv student at Duke. My wife Jill, Caleb (6), Graceson (4), new baby Lily (2mo), and I are from the Charlotte area and moved here during the summer of 2005.

While in Charlotte I served in youth ministry for about six years in and outside the local church, was a graphic designer and schoolteacher, and am currently exploring the call to camp and retreat ministry as an ordained elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.

We anticipate God’s great blessing here in this place and praise Him for the opportunity to be here in Durham with you. Please check out our new website at http://www.mucklerhappy.com for our full story. We continue to be excited and look forward to a great summer together. Please don’t hesitate to call or drop by the church office to say hello.

Dan has completed his first year of studies for a Masters of Divinity degree at Duke University, and plans to enter the Louisiana ministry of the United Methodist Church upon his graduation from Duke.

Director of Mother's Morning Out

Dana Winters

Dana has been the Director of our Mother's Morning Out preschool program since April 1997. Additionally, she is the parent of a former MMO child.

The Winters' family (Wayne, Dana, and April) joined Bethesda UMC in December 1996. Wayne is General Foreman at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner. Dana and Wayne are the proud parents of April, a student at Durham School of the Arts. April attended the MMO program when she was four years old.

Having grown up in a Navy family, Dana moved every three or four years. She's lived in different areas of the USA, and also in London, England for several years. She spent over eleven years working in federal government administration, stateside and overseas. The acquired experience and necessary adaptability made the decision of stay-at-home motherhood an easy one. Dana and Wayne's decision has not been a sacrifice; rather, they considered their choice an investment in their child. Dana has been an active PTA/PTSA member since 1998. She served as Treasurer for two years, and also as Volunteer Coordinator for two years. She spent two school years coordinating the "Hand in Hand" partnership between Bethesda UMC and the Bethesda Elementary School. One of Dana's top priorities is a commitment and dedication to the education and welfare of all God's children.
